Mom’s Day Off

Yesterday was quite a day in this household! It was the first day that Coco has been in daycare and it felt so surreal because of the calm quiet in the house.

I’m sitting here typing this and realized that I might actually catch up on my studies. It’s been a partially barren wasteland here on this site, as I have been desperately catching up on reading and projects for school. I’m not sure what I was thinking in taking both Intro to Computer Science and Principles of Marketing this term? Ambition! I’m taking two other business/management type classes, but they aren’t as exhausting as both of those two!

Thankfully I’m a fast reader who retains things fairly well.

Beauty stuff as of late! I’ve been spending a little bit of my nearly non-existent discretionary income on taking care of myself lately.

Hello new haircut!! Love love love. It’s way shorter than I’ve had in ages and I wish that I had done this much sooner. Hello new profile pics I think. I have to take care when I flat iron it though, lest I look like Anna Wintour. I’m thinking more Rose Byrne, less Anna.

Here’s another angle it from last week when I had to go to the doctor. I had a minor surgical procedure involving my lip and second round of stitches EVER. They were still in my mouth this morning, but came out just this moment. Meanwhile, I’ve been bad and not working out and have not been eating naughty things. Hooray for ice cream and homemade cookies! I guess that since the stitches are out now, I don’t have the “no solid food” excuse.

So the following pic is showing off my new jeans. Leggings? Denim jeggings? I cringe at typing the word jeggings. I’d given up on finding a quality pair of black skinny jeans and lo and behold, there was a sale at Kohl’s last weekend. Budget and black? Well fitting, too! Stretchy and they fit nicely.

These are the Levi’s Womens Super Skinny Legging, shade Coal Mine.

Here is a pic of some of the beauty hauls that I’ve gotten as of late.

Maybe I’ve got movie fever, but I had to have the Dark Shadows palette by NYX Cosmetics.

It’s a nice range of well-pigmented shadows and the lip colors and blushes are great. I’ll show a pic of that part of the palette later.

Onto a pic of the rest of the stuff.

I’m in love with Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 in Porcelain . It’s their lightest shade offering, but it’s very yellow-toned and darkens just a tad with my oily-combo skin.

I’ve been looking for daily coverage that is decent and with an SPF and this product really delivers. It evens out skin tone AND gives a dewy (not shiny) glow, which is something that is lost on our skin as we age.

I love Maybelline New York’s Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer in Nude. This is a great dupe to the fancy and expensive Yves Saint Laurent TOUCHE ECLAT Radiant Touch 1 Luminous Radiance and I love using both products together, the Maybelline concealer and LM tinted moisturizer.

I’ve been cutting back on my dose of black eyeliner during the day and am going for a slightly more “natural” look with Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Bourbon. It’s such a gorgeous dark and sparkly metallic brown that is flattering to every eyecolor. It also stays on very well, unless you’re trying to line the waterline, which I do less and less these days.

I scored at Ulta in the clearance section (along with being able to use my 20% off coupon) with two jars of Punky Semi-Permanent Colour Cream. What a steal at under $3 per jar. I think that I’ve decided to just grow out my hair color out completely and touch up my lighter parts before I embark on an entirely different hair color adventure.

The NYX Stay Matte but Not Flat Powder Foundation is great on its own or over my t-zone when I use the Laura Mercier. It honestly feels better than MAC’s Studio Fix and doesn’t make me breakout, either.

Here’s the trailer for the Dark Shadows movie by the way. “Reveal yourself, tiny songstress!” Hahahaha. It looks like a cheesy movie and this quote that I found on Facebook cracks me up. “Anytime you see a Tim Burton film you’re paying to watch Johnny Depp go trick or treating.” – Alec Mapa

Hopefully I can update again on Friday!

Until then, your comrade in beauty.

  1. Thanks for posting about the moisturizer and Touch Éclat. Next week I’ll finally head to Sephora and get it, and will need a moisturizer to make it look more natural. Thus will begin the era of Tony finally nurturing his skin!

What was the lip surgery? Vanity plumping? :)
